The Vergenoegd History:

The Dutch word Vergenoegd means “satisfaction has been achieved,” and captures how Pieter de Vos must have felt in 1696 looking at the view from his homestead located next to False Bay and overlooked by majestic mountains.  Vergenoegd is one of the three great wine estates of the False Bay area (a short distance from Cape Town).  Wine making has been an integral part of the estate since the 1700’s and the tradition of making fine wine continues on today with winemaker John Faure who represents the 6th generation of Faures to farm on Vergenoegd.  The cool maritime climate from False Bay combined with the loamy, sandy soils gives Vergenoegd a unique terroir perfectly suited to full bodied, rich red wines.  Vergenoegd wines have an award winning history receiving excellent star ratings in the John Platter South African Wine Guide and other noteworthy Wine Magazines.  The wines are elegant and complex, and age very well, so open a bottle and take part in centuries of this South African wine tradition.
